Good morning, parents of 9th graders,

I pray your child has had a great start to high school and that the transition from middle school has been a positive one.

As our students begin this new chapter, I am looking for adults who would be willing to serve as shepherds for this year's freshman class. Shepherd Ministry is a meaningful opportunity to care for our students and encourage them in their faith throughout their high school years.

As a shepherd, we ask that you pray for your student, encourage them in their faith, especially as it pertains to attending worship and youth Bible studies, and deliver care packages to them twice a year, in December and May. The care packages are prepared by members of our Shepherd Ministry team in The Rock and will be available for you to pick up and deliver to your lambs.

The focus of this ministry is to build relationships with our students and remind them that they are cared for, not only by their families, but also by the people of St. Lorenz. Through prayer, encouragement, and simple acts of care, shepherds have the opportunity to remind their lambs that they are loved and that we desire to see them continue to grow in their faith.

This summer, I was talking with a mom of a high school graduate who had cleaned out her child's dresser and found every note from their shepherd saved inside. It was a great reminder of how meaningful these simple acts of care can be, and how much our encouragement can mean to a student.

If you would like to serve as a shepherd, please review the attached list of names and email me a few students you would be interested in caring for throughout their high school years. I recommend selecting 1–3 students so that the responsibility remains manageable. Once you are assigned your lambs, you will receive information cards for those students. As you will see on the attachment, some shepherds signed up in the spring when this information was originally distributed, so several students already have shepherds assigned.

Shepherd Ministry has been an outstanding ministry at St. Lorenz for several decades, and I pray it can continue for many more. Thank you for considering how you might help us care for our students and encourage them to remain connected to Jesus and His Word in every stage of their life.

Please let me know if you have any questions about Shepherd Ministry. I also look forward to seeing your high school students at an upcoming Tuesday Morning Breakfast Bible Study or Sunday Night Bible Study!

Thanks,
Ben Sievert
